Course summary
This course has been designed for those students who want to work within sports science or coaching, and for the new generation of sports coaches who have a solid background in how the application of sports science can improve performance. The course is delivered in the Sports Performance Laboratory at our Taunton campus, where you will gain hands-on experience in testing sports performance using state-of-the-art and professional equipment. As part of the programme you will perform VO2max testing, blood lactate, performance analysis and biomechanical refinement on a variety of sports performers. This can then be applied to understand and aid sports performers through relevant coaching, pedagogical theory and best practice. Modules may include: • Anatomy & Physiology • Nutrition • Sports Psychology • Biomechanics • Exercise Physiology • Coaching Practice • Innovation in Coaching • Performance Analysis. There may be the opportunity to take part in a variety of day trips and visits for which there may be an additional cost. Teaching and Assessment Assessment methods include traditional essays, laboratory reports, presentations, screencasts, podcasts and practical deliveries. Progression Opportunities On completion of the course you may progress to a BSc (Hons) in Sports Science, Sports Coaching or Applied Sports Science. Following that you could continue your studies with a Masters degree or PGCE.
Assessment method
A variety of assessment methods are used throughout the course, including essays, group and individual presentations, research projects and other projects specific to the sports industry.
