Course summary
Design spaces that improve lives – with creativity, care, and cutting-edge technology. This course is for bold, curious, and thoughtful designers who want to shape the future of interior architecture. At Arts University Bournemouth, you’ll join a dynamic, studio-based community where design is more than just aesthetics – it’s about creating spaces that support health, wellbeing, and connection. From day one, you’ll work on real-world briefs that explore how interior environments can improve lives – whether in healthcare, retail, public space, or immersive experiences. Our unique collaboration with the NHS helps you apply your creativity to projects with genuine community impact, such as reimagining “health on the high street.” You’ll also explore how immersive technologies like VR and AR can be used as both design tools and storytelling platforms, preparing you for a future where digital and physical spaces are increasingly intertwined. Collaboration is at the heart of the course. You’ll work alongside students from other creative disciplines in live projects and critiques, developing your communication, teamwork, and innovation skills – all essential for creative industries. We place a strong emphasis on the craft of detailing and styling – from materials and texture to lighting and atmosphere – helping you design spaces that not only function beautifully but feel right, too. With a growing UK market for healthy and sustainable environments, this course prepares you for exciting careers across the commercial, healthcare, public, and cultural sectors. You’ll graduate with a strong portfolio, hands-on experience, and a distinctive design identity. Why choose this course? • Be part of a studio culture that values experimentation, care, and originality. • Gain real-world experience through NHS partnerships and live projects. • Use immersive technologies to prototype and communicate your designs. • Design with a purpose: from health and wellbeing to sustainability and inclusivity. • Collaborate across disciplines in a thriving creative university environment. • Step into a course where design meets social impact, and where your ideas can make a real difference.
