Course summary
A catalyst for change, MA Textiles at UCA Epsom is a responsive and diverse creative programme of study. What sets our course apart is the opportunity we provide for you to engage with a range of broad professional industry contexts as you develop and expand your practice through the course. You’ll graduate as a flexible specialist with confidence in sustainable practice that industry will want to invest in. We’ve drawn together a rich and longstanding legacy of established academic excellence in research, knowledge and expertise in textiles practice and professional industry contexts. Along the way you will examine the intersections of textiles with other subjects, with a focus on the priorities of sustainable textiles in wider creative industries and creative communities. And you’ll be a part of our vibrant, interdisciplinary and international postgraduate community of staff and students across textiles, fashion design, digital fashion, fashion photography, creative direction and global fashion cultures. This creative community will inspire you to develop your creative practice, share ideas and collaborate with practitioners from other disciplines while being supported all the way by your academic team.
Modules
Term 1: Theory and analysis; exploratory practice. Term 2: Reflective practice. Term 3: Major project.
Assessment method
Both your practical work and theoretical writing is assessed. This may include essays, presentations, research papers or catalogues.
Entry requirements
A good honours degree (normally 2.1 or above) or equivalent qualification in your chosen subject or a related discipline and / or relevant work experience, demonstrating your ability to study at postgraduate level. For this course, we'll require you to attend an Applicant Day and bring your portfolio for assessment. Further information on how to compile a portfolio and the specific requirements for examples of work to be included will be provided on the Applicant Portal after you've applied.

We require evidence of your English language ability to meet the requirements for your course. If you're a Home student and studied in the UK, we require GCSE English at a minimum grade C/4 (or Functional Skills English/Key Skills Communication Level 2). If you’re an EU student and studied a European qualification, we may accept the English Language score from your main qualification - please review your country from the list on our website to see whether we will accept it: https://www.uca.ac.uk/international-study/equivalent-qualifications/ If your qualification is not on this list, we accept the following English language qualifications: IELTS (overall score 6.0), TOEFL ibt (overall score 88), PEARSON PTE Academic (overall 55), Cambridge Proficiency Exam (overall score 169), Cambridge Advanced Exam (overall score 169). If you need a Tier 4 student visa to study in the UK, you will need to take an IELTS test, and achieve an overall score of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 for each element (Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing).
