This course is delivered completely online This course is a one-year online course that allows students who already have (or expect to achieve) a Diploma, foundation degree or equivalent qualification in a Performing Arts (Musical Theatre, Dance or Acting) to top up their qualification to a BA (Hons) degree. The course is designed to be completed entirely through distance learning in order to allow students to study from anywhere in the world to achieve a degree qualification alongside other commitments. You will develop your knowledge and understanding of a range of contexts in which performance and production have developed and are practised. Students will be encouraged to expand their awareness of the diverse nature of the Performing Arts sector and to foster an understanding of the industry within a broader economic, political, social and technological context. The online tutor-led sessions will orient students in research methods, writing skills and refining ideas, as well as the process of crafting a dissertation. Entry Requirements: The applicant will need to have achieved a Diploma, foundation degree or equivalent qualification in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre, Dance, Acting by the start of the course. Modules

Pioneers of Performance (20 credits) Online tutor-led sessions will orientate students to the innovations and practices of key figures in dance, drama and musical theatre. Students will have the opportunity to interrogate the relationship between the practitioners’ concepts and their practical application in performance-making. Professional Development Portfolio (40 credits) This module spans the entire year and requires the student to select an area of interest within the performance industry and to evaluate its current practices and challenges. Students will reflect upon their own professional development and to situate themselves within the wider debates within their chosen field. Theories of Performance (20 credits) Online tutor-led sessions will explore key theories which inform and influence contemporary creative practice. Students will have the opportunity to consider the differing ‘critical lenses’ through theatre is created, produced and received. Dissertation (40 credits) Tutor-led sessions will orient students in research methods, skills in writing and refining ideas, and the process of crafting a dissertation. Students will then select a topic to explore and research. Students will be assigned a supervisor who will offer tutorial support during the writing process.

Additional fee information

Please note that fees for subsequent years of study for continuing students are subject to an annual review. Any increase in fee will be in line with RPI-X (linked to the retail price index) and the fee cap set by the Government. The fees for studying the BA (Hons) programmes in partnership with De Montfort University are £9,250 per year. This covers all of the education and support required to complete the De Montfort University programme. DMU contracts with the student for the tuition fee element only, and not any additional fees. PPA contract with the student for any additional fee and accept full responsibility and liability for these funds.
