MSc Games Development is designed to build on students' existing computer programming skills, providing them with the knowledge and expertise to develop contemporary video games using a variety of advanced tools and platforms such as virtual reality. Because students may have no prior computer science or games development background, industry context is integrated into the course, and students are introduced to game design topics applicable to careers within the sector or independent game creation. There are also opportunities to develop the research techniques needed for potential further postgraduate study. To keep taught content up to date with the latest sector developments, the course is informed by the combination of industry experience and research undertaken by academic staff who specialise in games. This environment provides a rich source of inputs and perspectives, as well as many opportunities for constructive and creative multidisciplinary interactions. As an example of our industry focus, guest speakers from games companies and other areas are invited to contribute to the Frontiers of Games Research module. This module is designed to help students develop industry perspective, and better prepare them employment or further study.

Assessment method
Students on the programme may be assessed through a variety of means, including in-class tests, coursework, projects, and examinations. The final stage research project enables students to further specialise and complete a piece of work of significant complexity.
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

Entry requirements
A minimum UK 2:2 degree or equivalent plus GCSE Maths A*-C, or evidence of a Maths component graded at a minimum of 50% as part of the degree. A 2:2 degree in a STEM subject will also satisfy the Mathematics element.
