Why choose this course Collecting, managing and analysing data is essential across many sectors – from finance to politics, and advertising to healthcare. This course will give you the advanced computation and mathematics skills you’ll need to work in the growing field of data science. Designed in collaboration with industry and drawing on leading research, our Data Science MSc will prepare you for a career as a data scientist, data analyst, data engineer, data architect or a business analyst. This programme uniquely addresses the fundamentals of data as well as the technical considerations needed to handle data with increasing scale and complexity. What you will study This course combines in-depth study of the theory and practice of data science with an optional year-long work placement, where you’ll get the chance to apply your knowledge to industry-relevant challenges. A placement also allows you to discover the business value of data-oriented research and development. You’ll acquire solid technical knowledge of data science principles and practices, machine learning and data mining, practical business analytics, database systems and cloud computing. You can also customise this MSc with optional modules in information security, natural language processing and advanced artificial intelligence. You’ll complete a dissertation where you can further explore an area that interests you. Our dissertation projects involve topical real-world problems, often linked into cutting-edge research.

Entry requirements

A minimum of a 2:2 UK honours degree in either Computer Science, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, related disciplines with demonstrable exposure to programming and mathematics, or other alternative subjects related to data analysis, data science or informatics, or a recognised equivalent international qualification. We'll also consider relevant work experience if you don't meet these requirements. English language requirements IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in each other component.
