Year 1 You’ll gain a thorough introduction to sports journalism, covering multimedia journalism, news and ethics, shorthand, public administration and the social history of sport. Core modules Introduction to Journalism Studies Production Journalism News and Ethics Digital Sport Journalism Sport in Context The Sport Journalist's Toolkit Year 2 You’ll build on foundational skills with specialisms in sports reporting, media law, sports culture and society, plus news portfolio development. You’ll refine research, editing and reporting techniques, learn to work with different platforms and contribute to field work and live briefs. Core modules News Portfolio and Shorthand Media Law Team Media Sport Media Studies Sport Reporting Optional placement year An optional placement year gives you the chance to apply your journalism, technical and reporting skills in a professional environment, build a strong portfolio, gain confidence and establish industry contacts before your final year. Final year You’ll undertake modules covering areas such as live sport coverage, politics in sport media and critical investigation. You’ll also complete a major final project, applying your skills, ethical and legal knowledge and creative voice to work that prepares you for a career in sports media. The fees listed in the table above are for full-time UK undergraduate students in academic year 2025-26. You will pay further fees in each year of your course. Fees may increase each year. UK undergraduate and certain postgraduate fees are regulated by the UK government. The annual fee increase will not exceed the UK government's maximum regulated tuition fee limit set for the relevant academic year. Many of our courses include the option of a salaried placement year. Tuition fees for a placement year are charged at a lower rate of £1850.
