Course summary

We offer PhD and MPhil supervision in History in areas compatible with the research interests of our academic staff including:

  • Early Modern History
  • Global, Colonial, and Post-Colonial History
  • Medical Humanities
  • Medieval History
  • Modern American History
  • Modern British and European History
  • Urban History


Entry requirements

You must hold a UK undergraduate (Bachelors) degree with at least First-Class or Upper Second-Class honours or an equivalent qualification from a recognised overseas institution. The School of History also prefers that applicants hold a Master's degree (ideally with a Merit grade or better in the Master's dissertation). Professional experience will be taken into account if the specific grades are not achieved.
