Many nurses may wish to undertake training for a different part of the nursing register at some point in their careers. This course provides a conversion opportunity for nurses who wish to move from one part of the nursing register to adult nursing. Why study BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing (Advanced Standing) at BU?

  • Successful completion of this 2-year course will lead to a qualification in BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing
  • Acceptance onto the course depends on factors such as the initial field of registration, holding a nursing degree qualification and the date of the applicant’s original registration
  • Apply to study based at either our Bournemouth or our Yeovil Campus
  • 50% of the course is spent in practice placements to gain practical nursing experience in diverse locations like hospitals, community homes, private clinics and community nursing teams
  • Developed in conjunction with practice partners, service users and carers, on this course you’ll learn from experienced registered nurses and other healthcare practitioners
  • Purpose built skills facilities include simulated hospital wards and community home settings, allowing you to learn and practice various nursing procedures safely.
This is a cross conversion course for qualified nurses wanting to undertake training for a different pathway of nursing, e.g. convert from a Mental Health Nurse to an Adult Nurse. Acceptance on to the programme depends on a number of factors, for example: initial field of registration, a 2:2 honours degree or equivalent in Nursing, the date of the applicant’s original registration and the availability of adequate resources to enable the applicant to join the programme with advanced standing e.g. vacancies within programmes, or placements. Within six months of completing their course, 98% of our students are employed or in further study (Destination of Leavers from Higher Education - there was insufficient data to publish information specifically for this course. This is either because the course size is small or respondent numbers were low. Therefore, the data displayed is from across the last two years). The duration of the course will depend on your previous qualifications and experiences. The average time for a programme leading to a second registration is normally 18 months. Successful completion of the course will lead to a qualification in BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing.
