Course summary

The Postgraduate Certificate Integrative Counselling Skills offers a stimulating introduction to the skills, theory and self-awareness needed to be an effective listener and communicator. Successful completion of this counselling course can lead onto our MA/PG Dip Integrative Counselling, although there is no automatic progression and all applicants will need to reapply and be successful at interview. This counselling qualification can also help people in related professions such as social work, nursing or teaching to develop their listening and communication skill During the Postgraduate Certificate Integrative Counselling course you will: • develop the use of counselling skills within boundaries of ethical practice • communicate effectively in a way that is appropriate to the confidential, sensitive nature of emotional, psychological and/or mental health issues • critically reflect on your own awareness and your awareness of others • demonstrate your critical evaluation and reflective understanding of the literature underpinning teaching and evidence based practice • develop your understanding of counselling theory with a focus on Persona Centred, Psychodynamic and CBT • develop your understanding of integration

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

For progression onto the Masters Programme:* Undergraduate degree. (Relevant professional qualifications may be considered in place of a degree) Level 2/3 Counselling qualification desirable Experience of working with people in the caring field Two references uploaded with your application** For completion as a standalone qualification: Experience of working with people in the caring field Relevant professional experience and/or qualifications Undergraduate degree is desirable Level 2/3 Counselling Qualification is desirable Two references uploaded with your application** * Progression onto the Masters Programme without an undergraduate degree may be possible if your performance on the Postgraduate Certificate is exemplary. ** The references must be on letter headed paper or the referee can send them direct from a professional/work email address to [email protected]
