Course summary

This course is the natural progression from the HNC qualification. Students build on their prior learning, exploring several subjects in more depth, further developing their skills and understanding of the industry. This qualification offers students the opportunity to study subjects that reflect the diverse nature of the hospitality and events industry, which covers a wide range of businesses and establishments, including all of the following:

  • Deluxe hotels and restaurants
  • Designer bars
  • Contractors for events
  • Specialist catering for sporting events
  • Budget hotels
  • Pubs and nightclubs

Assessment method

Assessment is continuous and is based on assignments, projects, group projects, lectures, workshops, presentations and formative tasks. Intellectual skills such as analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and problem solving may be demonstrated and applied through active learning via formative tasks and summative assignments/projects. Group projects are used where appropriate to the industry experience or process, but each student is always assessed as an individual against the learning outcomes. Practical skills are developed in an appropriate learning context and practical assessment take the form of demonstrations. Throughout the course students are encouraged to undertake independent study both to supplement and consolidate their learning and to broaden their individual knowledge and understanding of the subject.

GCSE Maths – grade D/3 GCSE English Language– grade D/3 Functional skill Level 2 Maths and English No international applications. Also required: Applications to all FT UG must be made through UCAS.
