Course summary

The Graduate Diploma in Fashion Design Technology covers design for menswear and womenswear, product development, garment technology and pattern cutting. The course encourages creative thinking and innovative design approaches, and emphasises that 3D realisation is key to understanding the process of design and manufacture. The course covers a range of new and established technologies that give students an insight into manufacturing and design in the fashion industry. What can you expect? This course prepares graduates for suitable MA courses within the Design and Technology programme at London College of Fashion. This includes MA Fashion Design Technology Menswear, MA Fashion Design Technology Womenswear, and MA Pattern and Garment Technology. Graduates have previously secured places within UAL in addition to the RCA, Westminster, Kingston, Goldsmiths and Aalto Helskinki. Alternatively, graduates of this course will be in a position to gain employment in varied roles within the international fashion industry in the area of design and technology. This course is based at Mare Street in Hackney, east London. East London has been dubbed the centre of British fashion. It’s where the old meets the new, where the night comes to life, where you can eat almost anything you like and find some of the capital’s best shops. The London College of Fashion (LCF) Mare Street site is now renowned for housing our jewellery, MA Fashion Futures and tailoring courses, alongside LCF’s Centre for Fashion Enterprise. Modules

Modules include: Fashion language and context; fashion analysis; fashion development; final realisation.


Entry requirements

An Honours degree or equivalent academic qualification; or professional qualifications recognised as equivalent to an Honours degree; or prior experiential learning, the outcome of which can be demonstrated to be equivalent to formal qualifications otherwise required; or a combination of formal qualifications and experiential learning, which, taken together, can be demonstrated to be equivalent to formal qualifications otherwise required. Exceptionally, applicants who do not meet these requirements may still be considered if the course team judges the application demonstrates additional strengths and alternative evidence. This might, for example, be demonstrated by: related academic or work experience; the quality of the personal statement; a strong academic or other professional reference; or a combination of these factors. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in any 1 skill.
