Course summary

This Childhood, Youth & Communities Foundation Degree is an innovative two-year, work-based course that enables you to continue in paid employment or volunteering as you work towards this Level 5 qualification. Co-designed by academics alongside our alumni and wider sector practitioners, this Foundation Degree will develop your professional skills and knowledge to become a specialist practitioner in areas of community support, development, and advocacy services for children, young people, and families. What you’ll learn

  • Critically explore theories of community development, focusing on the inter-agency impact and effective collaborations.
  • Critically evaluate approaches to supporting the wellbeing and sustainable impact of our communities within contexts of social inequality and policy change.
  • Design research-informed, creative interventions that put children and young people at the centre.
  • Understand how social inequality, policy and advocacy shape support for children and families.
  • Reflect on your professional practice through shared learning with peers across the sector.
What’s more, you’ll join a diverse community of learners, supported by expert tutors who understand the demands of studying alongside work and family life. Following successful completion of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to continue your professional development by moving onto our one-year BA (Hons) top-up degree qualification.
