Course summary

If working on movies and TV shows is your dream, then our BA (Hons) Film Production degree course at UCA Farnham will give you the technical skills and vital business knowledge to forge an exciting career behind the camera. Graduates have gone on to work on the Harry Potter and Mission Impossible series’, as well as major TV shows like Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and Disney+ series Loki. Our course is predominantly practice-based – we believe in learning through doing. We are also geared to meet the ever-changing demands of the industry, and you’ll get to learn how to best use virtual reality, visual effects, and post-production technologies as you work. Right from the outset, you’ll be part of a close-knit creative team, making films on digital and 16mm cameras just as you will in the industry. You'll learn about the business of film, explore the production process from beginning to end, and develop crucial networking and communication skills. You’ll also have the chance to have your work screened at national and international festivals and competitions giving you the chance to make an early impact in your career. Related courses

Modules

In Year 1 you'll be introduced to the key concepts and skills in documenting the world around you. You'll learn about film analysis and the key roles in film production and writing for screen. You'll also explore theoretical perspectives on narrative, and shoot and edit a short group fiction project. In Year 2 you'll explore narrative films based on real events and develop your understanding of the history of documentary film and contemporary moving image culture. You'll also consider personal filmmaking and alternative modes of production and exhibition, and learn to challenge the conventions of documentary film. In Year 3 you'll produce your graduation film and undertake a dissertation, as well as a self-directed individual project or portfolio. You'll also make preparations for employment in the moving image industries.

If you’re an EU student and studied a European qualification, we may accept the English Language score from your main qualification - please review your country from the list on our website to see whether we will accept it: https://www.uca.ac.uk/international-study/equivalent-qualifications/ If your qualification is not on this list, we accept the following English language qualifications: IELTS (overall score 6.0), TOEFL ibt (overall score 88), PEARSON PTE Academic (overall 55), Cambridge Proficiency Exam (overall score 169), Cambridge Advanced Exam (overall score 169). If you need a Tier 4 student visa to study in the UK, you will need to take an IELTS test, and achieve an overall score of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 for each element (Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing).
