Modules
Year 1 (Foundation Year) The Foundation Year provides essential skills for Higher Education while introducing core concepts in business and communication. You’ll study with students across the Faculty of Social and Life Sciences, gaining insight into diverse subject areas and early access to staff and opportunities related to your chosen pathway. Modules: Study Skills for Success – Develops academic conventions and time management skills. Business Environment – Introduces business types, structures, and the factors affecting performance. A Day in the Life – Explores career pathways and builds your graduate portfolio. Numeracy (if required) – Strengthens mathematical skills for business and finance study. Professional Communication in the Workplace – Enhances communication skills in professional contexts. Fundamentals of Business and Finance – Covers key concepts in defining and financing a business. Year 2 (Level 4) This year lays a solid foundation in business and management, focusing on organisational behaviour, marketing, and the external environment. Core Modules: Introduction to Business and Management – Covers organisational structures, key functions, and decision-making. Understanding the Business Environment – Examines political, economic, and social influences on business operations. People and Culture – Explores leadership, motivation, teamwork, and diversity within organisations. Marketing and Communications – Introduces marketing principles, customer needs, and communication techniques. Year 3 (Level 5) Develop specialist knowledge in entrepreneurship, finance, and management tools. Choose to study ethics, project management, or complete a semester-long work placement. Core Modules: Entrepreneurship and Innovation – Focuses on creative problem-solving, business idea development, and innovation strategies. Business Finance – Teaches budgeting, investment appraisal, cost control, and interpreting financial information. Option Modules (choose one): Ethical and Corporate Responsibility – Analyses how businesses balance profitability with sustainability and ethics. Project Management – Covers tools and techniques for planning, risk management, and execution. Work Placement (60 credits) – Gain real-world experience in an organisational setting to boost employability. Year 4 (Level 6) Your final year focuses on global business, strategic planning, and applying your skills in a live consultancy project. Core Modules: International Business – Studies cross-border operations, trade, supply chains, and cultural challenges. Strategic Management and Marketing – Explores competitive strategy, long-term planning, and marketing’s strategic role. Contemporary Business – Analyses trends such as digital transformation, sustainability, and corporate responsibility. Capstone Project – Apply your knowledge to a real business issue through a group or individual consultancy project. Assessment method
You will learn through a mix of interactive lectures, seminars, workshops, group discussions, and case studies, supported by Wrexham University’s Active Learning Framework (ALF). This combines face-to-face teaching with flexible online learning, including short, recorded lectures, digital resources, and one-to-one tutor support. As you progress, teaching will increasingly focus on applying theory to real-world business challenges, including live consultancy projects and optional placements. Assessment is designed to reflect real business tasks and develop your employability skills. Instead of relying heavily on exams, you will be assessed through a variety of coursework methods, including: Essays and business reports Case study analyses Group projects and presentations Portfolios and reflective assignments Live consultancy project (final year) Formative feedback is built into the programme, so you will receive guidance on your progress before final assessments. By the end of your degree, you will have a portfolio of work demonstrating your ability to think critically, solve problems, and apply business knowledge in practice.
