Course summary
Studying a language is both fascinating and challenging. Languages break down barriers, allowing us to connect globally and share experiences. In an ever more complex world, language skills are more relevant than ever. We understand that not everybody is able to commit to spending a year abroad, and have created this three-year course which does not have a compulsory year abroad. (If you could like a year abroad, please see our four-year Modern Languages BA). We offer: French, German, Russian, Spanish (from post-A Level ) and Serbian/Croatian and Portuguese (from beginners' level ). Portuguese is only available as a beginners' language and may not be combined with Russian Serbian/Croatian is only available as a beginners' language and may only be studied alongside Russian
Modules
Year one. You will study a range of core language modules and select optional modules covering a wide range of subjects from cinema to politics and fairy tales to revolution. Year two. You will continue to study core language modules and a further selection of optional modules. Year three. You will be approaching near fluency in your chosen languages and your optional modules will allow you to tailor your degree around your personal interests or career aspirations.
