Degree overview This programme is designed for those who wish to develop an appreciation of key areas shaping the current landscape of the football industry. The programme provides opportunities to engage in different aspects of football business including areas such as governance and regulation, fan engagement, operational management and business development. This course is available with a Foundation year for those who do not meet main entry requirements. Degree content This degree programme explores the world of football business, including finance, marketing, media, international football business and general applied sports management. BA (Hons) Football Business will explore the vast global football industry and use modern and historical examples of good and bad practice from the industry to add context and further understanding to your studies. As with many of UCFB’s degree programmes, the course will be underpinned by seminars, lectures, guest speaker sessions and work experience opportunities with a raft of leading industry partners, from national governing bodies to clubs and brands. Degree specifications University Campus of Football Business is an embedded college of the University of East London. All students who begin their three or four year undergraduate degrees with UCFB from September 2021 onwards will be awarded a degree from the University of East London upon successful graduation. Career prospects Football is a global, multi-billion pound business that shows no sign of slowing down. Bumper TV deals and huge transfer fees means more money than ever is flowing through the game, ensuring it’s vital that there are personnel ready to jump straight in and shape its future. Potential careers could span across agency, commercial, finance, marketing and business development roles within football. The UCFB Employability & Career Planning Programme Over 90% of UCFB graduates are in employment within six months of graduating and almost two thirds of them work within the global sports industry. At UCFB, we bridge the gap between education and business, allowing a unique approach to education. We provide two curricula; the academic curriculum which encompasses exams and coursework and the Employability & Career Planning programme – a three year journey of professional and personal development. This provides access to best-in-class industry guest speakers, additional qualifications and exceptional opportunities to apply for work experience placements to ensure our students graduate as well-rounded, empowered professionals.

Modules

First Year: Principles of Marketing; Introduction to Football Finance; Industry Competencies (Mental Wealth); Understanding Sports Fan Behaviour; Understanding the Business of Football; Sport, Media and Society. Second Year: The Organisation and Marketing of World Football; International Culture and Relations; Industry Readiness (Mental Wealth); Research Methods; Intermediate Financial Accounting; and Entrepreneurship. Third Year: International Finance and Football Business; Football Brand Management; Professional Project; Industry Engagement (Mental Wealth); and Contemporary Issues in Sports Management.

Assessment method

Modules will be assessed in a variety of ways: Presentation; Group Presentation; Essay; Podcast; Report; Reflective Journal; Business Plan; Exam; and Project Document.

Additional fee information

Accommodation – as students are required to attend face-to-face classes as part of their course, they are expected to arrange their own appropriate living accommodation. Advice and the student housing application form are available through our website. Weekly accommodation costs range from £195 to £256. In some instances, optional Employability and Career Planning activities provided by UCFB may carry an additional cost for participants (e.g. qualifications with external certification such as FA Coaching Badges or STATS qualifications). Students will be notified of the details of any additional costs in advance of any such sessions running. Stationery equipment – paper and pens are required. Costs will vary dependent on individual student choice. Books, journals and periodicals – books will be available to access in the UCFB and UEL libraries. If students with to purchase books they can do so but this is not a requirement. Printing – printing credits are required to print documents on UCFB sites. Copies are 5p for black and white and 15p for colour. Students are expected to be in possession of a scientific calculator throughout their degree. Other additional costs will vary depending on a student’s individual needs.
