Course summary

The PGCE Secondary programme is an innovative and intensive nine month course preparing graduates for the demands of teaching in the Secondary sector. You will be awarded a PGCE and recommended for Qualified Teacher Status, enabling you to teach in schools on completion of the course. The course is organised in partnership with schools around Kent and Medway where you will spend 24 out of the 36 weeks teaching in two different schools.

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

  • Secondary

Entry requirements

Good honours degree (2:2 or above) in a subject related to the subject you wish to teach or, in some exceptional cases, an unrelated degree if you have extensive employment in industry in the relevant subject area. English and Maths GCSEs, (or accepted equivalent), grade C/4, or above. Passes in the Government's skills tests in literacy and numeracy.

Additional fee information

The fees above are for the 2025/26 academic year but may be subject to change following any announcements by the UK Government (approved by Parliament) regarding maximum Undergraduate tuition fee caps for 2025/26. In addition, the University reserves the right to increase all full-time and part-time Undergraduate tuition fees mid-course, in line with any further inflationary increase in the Government tuition fee cap which is approved by Parliament. The University will publish information about any changes to tuition fees on its website. International Tuition Fees (including EU fees): To be confirmed Undergraduate tuition fees for International students are not subject to the Government’s regulations on maximum tuition fees.
