Electronic products and services shape todays lifestyle, from the latest smartphone to the industry supply chain behind it. These are made possible by electronic engineers. Electronic Engineers are the people using their knowledge to improve our quality of life through better, safer, faster, and cheaper products. In our lecture rooms and labs, you will learn the knowledge and skills to let you prepare to work as a professional engineer at the forefront of high-technology industry in both technical and managerial roles. The MEng degree is the highest award for undergraduate studies in engineering and is recognised by employers world-wide. During the degree you will gain extensive practical experience to ensure that you develop sound practical skills as well as a thorough theoretical knowledge. The course will introduce you the foundational engineering modules in the first year and then you will progress to advanced electronics and deep knowledge of electronic systems in the second year. In your third year, you can choose a specific subject, such as nanophotonics, signal processing, laser technologies, for an individual project. This MEng course involves an extra year (fourth year) to provide a more in-depth study of the subject. You will undertake a group project, investigating a technical subject linking to industry and an end user/customer. This results in a well-presented group dissertation applying the engineering process to a problem. Electronic engineering offers flexible careers paths in many well-paid professional fields. Our graduates have gone to work high-profile companies including Jaguar Land Rover, MBDA missile systems, Her Majesty's Government Communications Centre (HMGCC), Qioptiq, Transport for London, etc. This degree has been accredited by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) under licence from the UK regulator, the Engineering Council. Accreditation is a mark of assurance that the degree meets the standards set by the Engineering Council UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC). An accredited degree will provide you with the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for eventual registration as an Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng). Some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degrees, and an accredited degree is likely to be recognised by other countries that are signatories to international accords.
