Course summary

Bring your designs to life, give them character through movement and expression, and learn the fundamentals of animation on our specialised BA (Hons) Games Animation degree at UCA Farnham. This dedicated course allows you to really delve deep into the technical and creative elements of animation for video games, while offering in-depth training as a 3D artist and designer. With our extensive facilities, including motion capture technology and VR capabilities, you’ll be able to animate and develop expressive characters who move and show feeling just the way you want them to. On this course, you'll get the best of both worlds, learning technical skills and 3D modelling for games, together with the key principles of animation. Modules

In Year 1 you'll explore drawing, animation and character, and learning how to use Autodesk Maya and supporting software. You'll investigate ways in which space can be represented dynamically through the development and production of original concept art and an original digital set. You'll also develop a complete computer generated animation and explore how we receive information about the world in which we live. In Year 2 the focus is on finding your own specialist way of working and you’ll be encouraged and supported to start working more independently. During this year you may also have the opportunity to complete an industry work placement or even study abroad.. In Year 3 you’ll execute a creatively and technically sophisticated project. We'll require you to demonstrate innovative and sophisticated approaches to CGI and animation, supported by an advanced creative methodology.You'll also undertake a dissertation.

This course considers applicants for direct entry into year two or three. If you need a Tier 4 student visa to study in the UK, you will need to take an IELTS test, and achieve an overall score of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 for each element (Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing).

Additional fee information

If you are classified as a Home student and qualify for the government-regulated undergraduate tuition fee, you will be charged a single tuition fee for each academic year. Our policy is to charge the maximum regulated fee. To reflect increased costs of delivery and maintain a high-quality student experience, we will therefore increase fees in line with any uplift determined by the UK Government by law or government policy in the second and subsequent years of your course. Such increases are usually linked to inflation and determined using RPIX (the Retail Price Index excluding mortgage interest payments). For all other students, your tuition fees may increase in the second and subsequent years of your course. Any increase in fees will be in line with inflation as measured by the RPIX but in any event by not more than 5%. We will notify you of any fee increase by no later than July before the start of the next academic year.
