Course details From developing your knowledge of core economic theory and high-level mathematics and statistics to addressing the challenges associated with real-world data, this BSc will arm you with the tools you need to make effective decisions in our data-driven world. The course explores the intricacies of economic analysis with an emphasis on resource allocation efficiency and effectiveness, while also offering the opportunity to tailor your learning to specialise in a specific area of mathematics or statistics. The BSc in Economics and Mathematics cultivates critical thinking, analytical prowess, problem-solving and logical reasoning. It serves as a gateway to a wide range of career options including the financial sector, policymaking, education and international development. Why Durham University? Assessment method
The majority of modules are assessed entirely by examination, while others also include an element of continuous assessment including online tests, presentations and project reports. The final-year Dissertation is an opportunity to bring your prior learning to an area of economics or mathematics of your choice. The Dissertation, completed under the supervision of an academic from your chosen subject area, makes up one-third of your final-year marks. In addition to the help provided by your subject lecturers, you can also access extensive support for your assessments through ASC, the Academic Skills Centre. The tuition fees shown for home students are for one complete academic year of full-time study and are set according to the academic year of entry. Fees for subsequent years of your course may rise in line with an inflationary uplift as determined by the government.
Durham University will charge home rate tuition fees up to the maximum allowed by the UK Government. Should the UK Government choose to increase the maximum tuition fee allowed in the second and subsequent years of your course, Durham University will raise tuition fees in line with UK Government policy and approvals, subject to an inflationary cap, but at no time more than 10-15% of your total tuition fees.
