On our BSc (Hons) Chemistry degree, we combine hands-on laboratory experience with classroom learning to provide you with the specialist knowledge and skills you’ll need to pursue a career or further study in the chemical sciences. You’ll study core areas like inorganic, organic, physical, and analytical chemistry while exploring specialist fields such as synthetic chemistry, catalysis, materials chemistry, and green chemistry - equipping you with skills for real-world applications and sustainable solutions. Our curriculum is designed to align with industry needs and developments, equipping you with the skills employers demand—like planning and conducting experiments independently, interpreting outcomes, and adapting methodologies to solve unfamiliar problems. This degree also provides the option to spend an additional year broadening your horizons, either through a placement in industry or studying with one of our partner universities overseas, subject to availability. - You can take the four-year route, spending a year studying overseas in Europe, North America or Australia, or boost your career prospects with a 9-12 month placement.
- Apply for the BSc (Hons) course now and you can choose to move on to the integrated masters degree (MChem) at the end of Year 2. As long as you’re working to a high enough standard you can then switch over to the MChem route.
- Our diverse research activities directly inform our teaching. These focus on alleviating global problems to create a sustainable and healthy future. Specific areas of interest include hydrogen fuel cells, catalysts, biosensors, drug discovery, green chemistry and the chemical monitoring of environmental change.
