Course summary
This course has an integrated foundation year. This means you will complete an extra year of study before starting your BSc degree to build your subject knowledge and develop your academic writing, reading and research skills. This option is for you if you are interested in psychology but do not meet the course entry requirements for BSc (Hons) Psychology yet, or if you want more time to prepare for higher education. Accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), this four-year programme allows students to commence their studies with a foundation year before beginning the main undergraduate degree programme. The first year of study is designed to develop academic skills and confidence required for an undergraduate degree. The content during the foundation year is tailored towards the curriculum of BSc Psychology. The BSc Psychology with Integrated Foundation Year degree enables students to examine the biological, cognitive, developmental, individual difference and social psychological principles underlying everyday experience and behaviour. The programme is designed to take students from the core discipline knowledge of theory and empirical findings relevant to human behaviour to an in-depth understanding of the human mind with the opportunity to conduct an independent dissertation project. On successful completion of the four year programme students will graduate with a BSc level degree and have the sound transferable knowledge, practical, analytical and technical skills that are highly marketable in a wide range of industries: working with children and adults, education, industry, media, civil service and marketing. The programme offers the student opportunities to experience and engage in a number of learning approaches in order to develop their subject specific knowledge. A variety of teaching and learning methods, such as lectures, workshops, group discussion and interpretative work, tutorials, laboratory activity and library work are used throughout the modules, but they all have a common theme: a student-centred approach.
Assessment method
You will be assessed through a range of assignments including scientific reports, essays, group and individual presentations, poster design, multiple choice papers, short answer papers, research participation and essay exams.
