Around the world, health and social care services are coming together to prioritise the support that individuals, families and their communities need. The level of practice needed to inform and contribute meaningfully to this global movement is being realised. As a result, advanced practice masters level qualifications for registered health and social care practitioners are in demand. The University's Masters in Advanced Practice has been designed in consultation with policy advisors, clinicians, students and patient representatives. We recognise the importance of service user and carer perspectives when it comes to defining a flexible approach to practice experience and in advancing core and area specific levels of clinical competence. MSc Advanced Practice at Glasgow Caledonian University gives you exposure to worldwide health and social care perspectives. You will explore further the need to integrate service users and carers views into policy and practice development. And you will develop the confidence to embrace and promote professional leadership - so that you can contribute meaningfully to the modernisation and integration of health and social care delivery. MSc Advanced Practice offers three exit points: MSc, PgD and PgC. You can also choose to specialise and graduate with a named award from Glasgow Caledonian University: MSc Advanced Practice (Musculoskeletal Health) or MSc Advanced Practice (Education in Academic and Practice Settings), a teaching qualification with HEA Fellowship. These named awards are available with a predefined list of module choices to ensure your study is appropriate to your field, giving you the best learning experience to suit your needs.-

Module list Advanced Leadership for Health and Social Care Practitioners; Work-based Advanced Skills and Innovative Practices; Principles of Practice in Medical Ultrasound; Non-medical Prescribing; Applied Pathophysiology for Advancing Professional Practice; Supporting Anticipatory Care for Long-term Conditions; Foundations of Radiographic Image Interpretation; Magnetic Resonance Imaging Principles and Practice; Computed Tomography Principles and Practice; Advancing Practices in Imaging; Social Action Approaches in Public Health; Human Movement and MSK Rehabilitation; Advanced Assessment and Management of Illness and Injury; Advancing Professional Practice; Advanced Research Methods; Surgical Management of the Foot; Principals of Diagnostic Investigation; Dissertation. Recognition of Prior Learning through experiential or accredited learning can also contribute to gaining this award.

Assessment method

This is a modular programme, each module being individually assessed; a variety of assessment strategies are used within modules, including: reports; projects; literature reviews and essays; a supervised research dissertation is submitted as the final assessment.


Entry requirements

You must be an experienced (normally two to three years post registration), registered health or social care practitioner with minimum academic requirement; UK 2:2 honours degree or equivalent. If you can demonstrate experience or accredited learning you will also be considered by submitting a Recognition of Prior Learning Application. Academic IELTS score of 6.5 (or equivalent) with no element below 6.0. Reading and listening must be 6.5.
