Course summary
Course overview Music is everywhere, profoundly impacting us as individuals and shaping our societies. Philosophy prompts deep reflection on the very foundations of our beliefs and the validity of our most common assumptions. This programme lets you dive into both worlds, exploring the power of music and your creative potential to produce memorable tunes. You'll have countless opportunities to develop your creative and critical thinking skills while discovering the innovative ways philosophers, past and present, have tackled humanity's greatest ideas and problems. If you're a keen musician wanting to explore the exciting world philosophy offers, then this is the course for you. This joint honours will also develop key skills in critical thinking, creativity and collaboration, and make you adaptive to challenges in the modern workplace. Embark on an intellectual journey that blends the diversity of music with the depth of philosophy. In Music, you will explore a wide array of styles and topics as well as the chance to progress as a composer or performer. In Philosophy, you will uncover historical and contemporary thought that has shaped society. Our programme offers an immersive experience that encourages creativity, critical thinking and cultural exploration. Facilities For Music, we have purpose-built spaces to compose, rehearse, perform, record and experiment. We encourage collaboration between students, joining up work across modules and getting involved in staff projects. See recent examples of student projects and have a listen on Soundcloud to some tracks our students have produced.
