Course summary
A 'top up' route to a BSc honours degree for those who already hold a Foundation Degree, HND or equivalent qualification. The BSc (Hons) Zoo Management (top-up) programme aims to equip you with essential knowledge and skills to help you enter the zoological collections industry. You will focus on recent advances in the husbandry of captive animals; including economic factors affecting the sustainability of the zoo industry. You will consider key aspects of effective collections management, including population management, zoo visitors' experiences, conservation education and the importance of sustaining a business. You will also explore the complexities of how species and habitats are conserved, and the role zoo collections play in modern day conservation principles. Making use of the extensive on-campus facilities, University Centre Askham Bryan has access to its own licensed and BIAZA accredited wildlife park, ‘Askham Bryan Wildlife and Conservation Park’.
