Course summary

About this course Study BA Sustainable Luxury (Textiles) and gain a fundamental understanding of the changing landscape of sustainable luxury while developing artisanship skills to design and create luxury textiles. With this hands-on programme, you'll be exploring printing, dyeing, knitting and weaving, alongside other techniques such as felting and embroidery, you’ll develop the knowledge and experience to affect change in the global textiles industry. Using new technologies, you’ll reinterpret traditional heritage craft practices, and find digital solutions to challenges around sustainable innovation, ethical manufacturing and product augmentation. You'll become a trailblazer, shaping the future of sustainability, luxury, and artisanship. With a employability-focused curriculum, this programme offers you the opportunity to work on live briefs with businesses in the industry. Previous textiles students have worked with Marc Jacobs, Peagreen, Nike and Nobody's Child amongst many others. Key features of the course:

  • You'll have your own dedicated studio workstation with desk and display wall.
  • Access to specialist print, dye, knit and weave workshop resources and digital design (CAD) suites.
  • Hear from guest speakers and get involved in projects from luxury brands, textile suppliers, manufacturers and studios.
  • Opportunities to enter industry competitions, earn bursaries and complete internships.
Student Support You’ll become part of a close-knit community, supported by inspiring tutors who are committed to helping students achieve their creative goals. You will be working closely with your peers in a close-knit class, you’ll collaborate, inspire one another and explore concepts you are passionate about. Further information The BA Sustainable Luxury (Textiles) is a three-year, full-time course at our Winchester School of Art. Qualification requirements

In addition to those qualifications listed, we also accept a pass in an Art & Design foundation programme. We welcome applicants with other qualifications eg. European Baccalaureate. You will be expected to attain an A level equivalent standard. The University of Southampton requires all applicants to achieve at least a Grade 4 in English and Mathematics GCSEs (taken in England) or a Grade C in both subjects (where taken in Northern Ireland or Wales). Some degree subjects stipulate specific additional GCSE minimum grades, which will be specified as part of the individual degree programme entry requirements. Portfolio

Applicants who are based outside the UK and whose academic qualifications meet (or are on track to meet) our entry requirements will be required to send us a portfolio of their work.
