Course summary

This course prepares practitioners to work in defined areas of community public health practice, for registration as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) Health Visitor. Why study BSc/PG Dip Public Health Nurse (Health Visiting) at BU?

  • Specialist Community Public Health Nurses lead and deliver public health services for children, young people and families in the community
  • Develop the skills to assess the health needs of individuals, families, and communities within diverse and changing contexts, to enhance health and wellbeing
  • You’ll be exposed to the breadth and depth of public health working and demonstrate your ability to participate safely in the practice of Health Visiting
  • The course is offered in partnership with 0-19 years Public Health service providers, with theory learning at BU and practice learning supported by a practice supervisor and practice assessors

Entry requirements

A Bachelors Honours degree with 2:2 in any subject. Part One or Part Two registration on the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) register; Secondment from your employing DHUFT. If English is not your first language you'll need IELTS (Academic) 7.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component of writing, speaking, listening and reading.
