Course summary

Those degrees teache you the fundamentals of different regulatory frameworks and provide a focused approach to compliance practice in different legal areas. Your courses focus on compliance in the UK, EU, and global markets. Gain the skills that will help you succeed in a regulation and compliance career. Options to specialise in the financial & insurance sector, on data protection & information security, on trade regulation, or energy & environmental compliance or follow the general curriculum. Taught by academics from the Institute for Regulation and Ethics, an institute that draws from faculties which focus on the inter-relationship between commercial law, regulation and ethics. What you'll study This programme teaches you how to manage practical issues in compliance and regulation. You can take general and specialist modules to tailor your degree to your needs and career trajectory. You may choose from the following pathways:

  • Regulation and Compliance
  • Financial and Insurance Regulation
  • Data Protection and Information Security
  • Business and Trade Regulation
  • Energy and Environmental Regulation
  • The programme consists of four core modules, which cover the problems facing regulators in designing regulation and compliance officers in their day-to-day activities.
You will select from a range of elective ‘specialist’ modules and write a research dissertation. The dissertation includes two elements: a specialist case study that simulates compliance duties and a 5,000-word free-topic essay. If you want to follow one of the specialised pathways, your elective modules and dissertation must be relevant to your specialism. Otherwise, you can choose a general route and select modules from across the pathways. During your induction week, you are expected to attend a pre-sessional law course to refresh your understanding of relevant legal concepts.
