Public and Emergency Services

Course summary

Would you like to have a challenging and rewarding career where no two days are the same? The public and emergency services are relied upon to plan for and deal with all kinds of problems, from anti-social behaviour in our communities, to major worldwide disasters. By joining this skilled workforce you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of others. The HND Public and Emergency Services course will give you a strong practical and academic grounding in how public, emergency and armed services operate, are organised and are managed. You’ll have the chance to complete work placements, or work on projects with public organisations. This will not only enhance your studies but also give you valuable real-life experience in the workplace and help you to prepare for your career. In addition to the HND, as part of the course you will have the opportunity to attain a range of additional qualifications including First Aid and Defibrillation qualifications. Students will also be encouraged to volunteer with the Army Cadets. Those that take up this option could gain the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector qualification as well as the Institute of Leadership and Management’s (Level 3) qualification. Students who successfully complete the HND Public and Emergency Services have the opportunity to progress to the final year of the BA(Hons) Public Services at USW. The course is delivered across two sites, Barry campus and Cardiff International Sports Campus.
