Course summary
Photography can manifest itself in so many ways, and that makes it one of the most accessible creative mediums. Our BA (Hons) Photography degree at UCA Farnham allows you to take your existing skills and develop them into professional practice. Our close-knit course means you’ll get plenty of time with the team of expert staff who will guide you through your learning. You’ll get to collaborate with people on other courses, too – sharing some lectures with our Fine Art students to broaden your horizons and start inspiring conversations. Professional experience is written into the course throughout, and you’ll get chances to gain exposure for your work through competitions and other live projects – for example, our second-year students recently worked on a project with the National Portrait Gallery. And we have all the facilities and software you’d expect for a top-level photography course, including Capture One software, in our dedicated post-production suite. So, whether you want to become a commercial photographer, photo agent, curator, or picture editor, this course will give you everything you need. Related courses

Modules
In Year 1, you'll be introduced to the theoretical study and creative practice of photography, as well as the basic tools needed in the production and manipulation of photographic imagery and text. You'll learn the fundamental technical skills required to progress and develop your practice. In Year 2 you'll be solving the problems of how to represent ideas in photography by thinking strategically. Building on the critical introduction to photography practices and assumptions carried out in Year 1, we'll consider ways of appropriating, modifying, negotiating, challenging or replacing existing conventions of representation. In Year 3 you'll have the opportunity to draw on the experience, knowledge and skills acquired so far. A core theme of this year is the major project, where you choose the areas of your practical studies that you'd like to concentrate on. You'll be provided with a range of professional and career planning topics which help you to develop your future career.
