This programme of study, taught by industry specialists dedicated to ensuring you acquire the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the sector, offers the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of the various aspects of flight and professional standards. This course is offered on a full-time or part-time basis. The part-time course is taught over one day per week and takes approximately 18 months to complete. The full-time course is taught over two days per week and takes one year to complete. Work Experience and Placement There is no requirement for work experience or a work placement within an Engineering company, although it is encouraged for those that have not currently been employed in the sector. Using our excellent links with local employers we will always support you in finding a suitable placement. After the Course If you successfully achieve your programme of study, you will be awarded a Pearson Higher National Certificate (Level 4) in Aeronautical Engineering after which you could progress to the HND Aeronautical Engineering top up programme or seek employment within industry.
Modules
A typical week has approximately 10-20 hours of contact time in taught sessions, plus additional 1-1 support available by student request. As with all higher education programmes, students are required to take ownership of their learning and development and should expect to spend time studying and completing assessment tasks with independence outside of lectures. You will study a range of units that will develop your specialist knowledge and skills. These include: 1. Engineering Design 2. Engineering Mathematics 3. Engineering Science 4. Managing a Professional Engineering Project 5. Aircraft Aerodynamics 6. Aircraft Electrical Power & Distribution Systems 7. Airframe Mechanical Systems 8. Turbine Rotary Wing Mechanical and Flight Systems Please be aware that modules studied may change periodically to reflect developments in the discipline. Students can always find the most up-to-date information about your modules and who is teaching them in the course handbook. There are no timetabled Tutorial sessions in the programme. However, staff are always available to support your learning and answer any questions you might have. This can be done at the end of a class or during the week.
Assessment method
You will be assessed using a range of methods including essays, presentations, assignments and practical assessments. Feedback will be provided to you in writing, along with information reflecting your performance and recommendations for improvement.

Typical entry requirements are 48 UCAS tariff points from two A levels or equivalent, BTEC Level 3 Diplomas, Access to HE Diploma, International Baccalaureate (with at least 24 points achieved), UCAS tariff points from Scottish Highers or Advanced Highers, UCAS tariff points from the Irish Leaving Certificate and Welsh Baccalaureate are generally accepted. It is highly recommended that these 48 UCAS tariff points come from an Engineering or Science-based discipline, however, applicants from outside of these specialisms with relevant experience will be considered. Grade 5 (C) in GCSE Maths (or equivalent) is required. Grade 4 (C) in GCSE English (or equivalent) and GCSE Physics is highly desirable. Applicants will be invited to attend an admission interview and will be advised of the criteria in advance. We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 and over as of 1st September) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants. English language requirements
International applicants will be required to evidence English language skills - this could be an IELTS score of 5.5, with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component, a grade 4 in GCSE English (or equivalent), or having recently completed a Level 3 qualification taught and assessed in the English language.
