Course summary
Do you want to produce and facilitate stories on stage? With this BA Theatre and Arts Management, you will investigate theatre as live event, as dramatic text and in its historical contexts, as well as understanding the business of the creative and cultural industries. You will be based in the heart of London’s vibrant arts and cultural scene. You will explore theatre histories and theories in depth alongside the many ways in which it is possible to tell stories. You will gain a crucial understanding of:
- how creative organisations work
- how cultural policy is implemented
- the role of audience development and curatorial practice.
- On completing the BA Theatre and Arts Management, you will be well-placed to develop a career in theatre and the arts more broadly, for example as an artist, creative producer, or arts manager, or undertake further study at postgraduate level.
- Birkbeck is located in the heart of literary London - in Bloomsbury, WC1 - and writers and academics maintain strong links with the creative industries. You could be studying in a building that was once home to Virginia Woolf and frequented by members of the Bloomsbury Group. The building houses our own creative hub which includes the Peltz Gallery, the Gordon Square Cinema and a theatre and performance space.
- You will be eligible to submit work to the Scratch Night as part of Birkbeck Arts Week, and to attend public events and performances curated by Birkbeck Centre for Contemporary Theatre.
