Course overview Do you have the potential and aspiration to become a doctor, but do not yet have the qualifications required to apply? Our MBBS Medicine with a foundation year is a 6-year programme will will enable your to become a professional, compassionate doctor. The foundation forms the first academic year, and this prepatory year is taught at our National Centre for Remote and Rural Medicine at our Westlakes campus in Whitehaven, Cumbria. During this first year, you will learn fundamental biomedical sciences and mathematics that later in the course you will apply to normal human body functioning and then later the disease state, plus scientific communication skills. Following successful completion, you will automatically progress to our 5-year MBBS Medicine course at our Preston campus. Why study with us

  • You will have access to our on-campus clinical skills laboratories - to help develop clinical skills in realistic hospital, home and GP surgery environments.
  • Once you progress to our 5-year MBBS course, you’ll benefit from a mixture of work-based learning and clinical placements throughout the programme.
There is an emphasis on basic medical sciences, communication and clinical skills to help you develop skills in evaluating clinical and scientific evidence. Throughout the programme, you will benefit from a range of learning strategies, such as small group tutorials, seminars, laboratory-based teaching sessions, workshops and clinical placements in primary and secondary care.
