Course summary
The Autism MA at Northumbria is designed to support ASD professionals and carers develop their knowledge and critical thinking around the characteristics of autism spectrum disorders. Students explore the needs arising from ASD and the different approaches to meeting these needs, particularly through teaching and learning. This course offers motivated, passionate people working in the field of autism the opportunity to study for a specialist qualification that will accelerate and focus their contribution towards better lives for people with ASD. You will learn from leaders in the field of autism. In addition to the highly respected staff based at Northumbria, you will have contact with a cohort of visiting lecturers with key specialisms including ageing and autism, the biochemistry of autism, and anxiety and anger management. Northumbria University is the largest North East provider of CPD in Education, and Ofsted has rated our department ‘outstanding’ for the past 14 years. Assessment method
Your tutors will use a variety of teaching methods, which may include lectures, seminars, problem-based workshops, case discussions, practical activities, group work and tutorials. Teaching is backed up by a well-designed support system that will underpin your learning journey. You will have access to a Guidance Tutor with whom you can discuss any academic issues. Extensive feedback from both tutors and peers is built into the course.
Entry requirements
Applicants should normally have: A minimum of a 2:2 honours degree or a masters degree in a relevant subject area. Or a relevant professional qualification.
