If food is your passion this is the programme for you. You will explore the relationships between food and the consumer and socioeconomic, legal, technical, ethical and environmental factors that shape food supply and food choice. Both the Food and Consumer Science programme and the Food, Nutrition and Health programme share the same curriculum in the first two years, allowing you to transfer easily between them in line with your career goals. Work alongside industry professionals and gain professional experience during a 10-week work placement. Develop your practical skills in Abertay's state-of-the-art food labs and consumer experience centre. This programme is aligned to the General Teaching Council (GTC) for Home Economics Teaching and is accredited by the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST).

Course details

Modules

Year 1 core modules (subject to change over time) - FOD101 Fundamentals of Nutrition; LSC100 Science Principles and Practice; LAW251 Law; FOD105 Food and the Consumer; FOD106 Safe Food Handling. You will also be required to select one elective module. For detailed module information please check our website.

Assessment method

A variety of teaching methods from traditional lectures to tutorials and case studies, drawing examples from industry linked projects, through collaboration with [email protected] The students have an opportunity to gain real life experience through the 10 week-long placement at Year 3, giving them the opportunity to put into practice their academic learning. You will be assessed by coursework, class tests, online assessments, exam presentations, vivas and projects.

Applicants should have National 5/GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or equivalent - Lifeskill Maths NOT accepted in lieu of Maths
