Course summary

BSc (Hons) Creative Technologies brings together a dynamic range of contemporary digital practices, from animation, journalism, and web technologies through to computer games, sound, and immersive experiences in VR, AR, MR and XR. This course offers the opportunity to explore creative and technical skills across disciplines whilst studying as part of a thriving community of diverse innovators and makers. As a specialist arts university we have the resources and expertise to provide you with the best possible education in creative technologies. You will have access to computer labs, specialist software, film and sound production facilities, and industry standard equipment for coding, editing and immersive media production. You will be encouraged to gain professional practice opportunities wherever possible, through collaborations with students on courses such as Filmmaking, Animation, Music, and Games, or through engagement with external projects. We will support you through developing networking skills and building professional contacts. Working alongside artists, designers, performers and writers across a range of disciplines will provide opportunities for innovative collaborations and exciting new ways of thinking. Our Industry Speaker programme includes professionals from across the digital and creative industries to provide a real-world context for developing your career path.

Modules

Year one - You will explore the foundations of creative technologies through introductory practical workshops in digital storytelling, moving image and programming. You will also gain skills sound design, and animation, developing an informed perspective on how technology supports creativity. Year two - Alongside developing your personal projects, you will explore immersive media and across a wide range of creative applications. You will also strengthen your theoretical knowledge, critical thinking, and ethical awareness, enabling you to understand wider cultural and professional debates. Year three - You will consolidate and extend your practical skills in the creation of a major project that showcases your technical and creative abilities, as well as explore opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. You will choose and investigate an aspect of creative technologies in depth to gain a deeper understanding. By the conclusion of your final year, you should be ready to take the next steps in your career across the creative and digital industries.

Leeds Arts University encourages applications from talented and motivated students. The University uses a wide range of methods to assess applications, these can include: • personal statement • predicted grades • contextual information • reference • examples of your work • digital auditions or interview If you are successful in your application an offer will be made to you, if conditional we will ask for between 104 and 120 UCAS tariff points from any combination of A Levels/T Level/Extended Diploma/Foundation Diploma. The expected subjects will depend on the course you are applying for. All applicants must have GCSE English Language or Literature at Grade 4/Grade C or above, or English Functional Skills Level 2 at Pass. - Examples of work Our BA (Hons) Acting for Screen course is about working with screens in all their forms so we are keen to see how you can perform in any of these settings. We would like you to record and upload a video to YouTube, Vimeo or Weibo. The video should be made up of one or more solo performances of up to three minutes in total. The performed pieces may range from scenes from existing TV or cinema in any dramatic form or may be self-written as drama or as influence pieces designed for social media. You will need to state or caption each performance piece so that we can identify your source. - English You’ll need to have passed GCSE English Language or English Literature at Grade 4/Grade C or above, or English Functional Skills Level 2 at Pass. For mature students, an Access to Higher Education qualification in art and design will also be acceptable to demonstrate English language ability. Currently studying a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design? If you are currently studying a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, you will have already achieved level 3 qualifications which carry UCAS tariff points. When considering your application, we will, collate your achieved tariff points with those you are predicted. You will also need a GCSE grade 4/ Grade C or above in English Language or English Literature or equivalent, or Functional Skills level 2 at a pass.
