Course summary

This course offers students an opportunity to develop their academic interests in the societies, cultures, literatures and films of the German speaking lands from the Middle Ages to the present.

Modules

Compulsory modules: 1. Literary and cultural theory 1 2. Literary and cultural theory 2 3. Research and professional skills 4. German literary and cultural contexts: turning points 5. Specialised research in German studies

Assessment method

Modules are assessed through coursework; there are no final exams for this programme. You will spend the summer months focusing on researching and writing a final dissertation of no more than 15,000 words.


Entry requirements

A good 2.1 Honours undergraduate degree in German with a German language proficiency at C1 level on the European Framework or equivalent. If you studied your first degree outside the UK, please see the university’s international entry requirements.
