Course summary
Study topics from modern cryptography (the art of writing or solving codes) to modelling black holes, and complex financial problems. You can choose from a wide range of optional modules to find your niche and develop your future career. Use our Maths Study space, with pods for group work, chalkboards and glass walls for writing on, to study with friends and get support from students across all year groups. Furthermore, as part of the Russell Group, our rigorous scientific research feeds directly into your modules. Key features of this course:
- You’ll be able to specialise in pure or applied mathematics or statistics, or follow a broad path across these topics and more
- Learn to use mathematical and computational packages such as Python and the statistics package 'R'
- You’ll be taught through a combination of lectures and workshops, by leading researchers in fields, such as group theory, the mathematics of nature and experimental design.
Modules
Year one will give you a foundation in key areas such as calculus, linear algebra and mathematical modelling. In years two and three you can choose from a range of optional mathematics modules such as Fields and Fluids; Actuarial Mathematics; Complex Analysis. You can personalise your learning further in year three by taking modules from other subject areas or interdisciplinary modules. Assessment method
You will be assessed in a variety of ways such as coursework, tests and exams, enabling you to demonstrate your strengths and show what you have learnt.
