Course summary

This course at RQF Level 8 attracts a cosmopolitan, strongly motivated, and very talented student body which gives participants a realistic sense of the demands required to be at the top of the profession. The Academy's teaching is delivered by leading professional figures, whether in weekly lessons or in high-profile public masterclasses, so that students are educated in a culture that engenders the highest professional standards in relation to artistic interpretation and technical discipline. The Academy's world-class collections of string and keyboard instruments, music manuscripts, early printed materials, and other musical artefacts, together with the programme of events in the Academy's Museum, provide an unparalleled resource which impacts upon the student learning experience at all levels of the programme. The course is designed to enable students to make the most of the educational opportunities afforded by being at the cultural heart of Europe's leading city for classical music. The application deadline for London auditions or video auditions is 2 October 2023. The application deadline for our New York audition centre is 8 January 2024.

Principal study options

During the application and audition process, you must select which instrument(s) you wish to specialise in for the duration of your course. On this course, you can choose from the following options:

Main specialism

Only one specialism is studied. It may be possible to study a further instrument, but this will not contribute towards the qualification.

Instrument/specialisms

For all courses, you must select at least one specialism from the 'primary' list. For those studying primary/secondary pathways, two instruments may be selected – one from the 'primary' list and one from the 'secondary' list. Joint pathway students may select any two instruments from either list.

Entry requirements

A Master’s qualification or equivalent (in a relevant subject) but the Academy welcomes applications from students who may not meet the normal requirements. A performance standard at least equivalent to a Distinction at Master’s level. https://www.ram.ac.uk/study/entry-requirements
