In this practical and creative course, you will experience how drama and performance can help marginalised groups. You will work on placements in local community settings, facilitating others to create work. Working alongside specialists including drama teachers and youth theatre practitioners you will learn how to plan, develop and deliver your theatre practice. You will benefit from our long-standing relationships with organisations across York and the wider region. We work with diverse groups of all ages in settings such as schools, prisons and care homes. Some of the partnerships we have across the region include: York Theatre Royal Youth Theatre – you will have the opportunity to work on weekly youth theatre workshops and performances. Connaught Course Care Home – our students regularly visit care homes that provide support to older people with dementia and make reminiscence theatre for the residents. Changing Lives – this charity provides accommodation and support to homeless men and women in York. Your work here might include working with these groups and offering drama workshops. Mind the Gap – this is one of Europe’s leading disability theatre company specialising in working alongside artists with learning disabilities. You could work alongside these artists to deliver exciting theatre performances.
