Are you looking to become a fashion designer? Learn the advanced knowledge and skills you’ll need and gain a clear style identity as you develop your own brand and final collection on our comprehensive BA (Hons) Fashion Design course at UCA Epsom. With access to the latest technology and facilities, you’ll be making garments from the get-go, learning the technical skills to design the clothes you see in your future, and you’ll also gain insight into the global fashion industry, so you can find your place within it. Along the way you’ll be able to reflect on your own work in cultural and historical contexts, undertake exciting elective units that broaden your horizons, go on an industry work placement that suits your needs and career aspirations and take part in a range of live industry briefs and showcases – like Graduate Fashion Week. Throughout your course you’ll also be developing a comprehensive professional portfolio of work and building a network of vital industry contacts, so when you graduate, you’ll be able to leap straight into an exciting career. Modules

In Year 1 you'll be introduced to fashion design through lectures, seminars and practical workshops where emphasis is placed on developing core skills and a sound awareness and understanding of your chosen subject. The focus is on developing practical design and study skills and contextual awareness. These foundational tools will enable you to apply and express your creativity through a variety of methods. In Year 2 you'll become more independent in your approach to your learning. You are encouraged to challenge tried and tested approaches to design and pattern cutting in order to stimulate fresh and innovative ideas which you can continue to build on into your final year. In Year 3 you'll pursue and develop your own design identity, focusing your work towards your long-term career aspirations, and produce a six-outfit collection.

This course considers applicants for direct entry into year two or three. To enter directly into year two/three, you’ll need to have studied 120/240 credits in a similar subject area or have work experience equivalent to one/two years of study. A portfolio is required for this course. We’ll invite you to an Applicant Day where we’ll review your portfolio, or you can upload an online portfolio to your UCA Applicant Portal. Details will be provided once we've received your application.

We require evidence of your English language ability to meet the requirements for your course. If you're a Home student and studied in the UK, we require GCSE English at a minimum grade C/4 (or Functional Skills English/Key Skills Communication Level 2). If you’re an EU student and studied a European qualification, we may accept the English Language score from your main qualification - please review your country from the list on our website to see whether we will accept it: https://www.uca.ac.uk/international-study/equivalent-qualifications/ If your qualification is not on this list, we accept the following English language qualifications: IELTS (overall score 6.0), TOEFL ibt (overall score 88), PEARSON PTE Academic (overall 55), Cambridge Proficiency Exam (overall score 169), Cambridge Advanced Exam (overall score 169). If you need a Tier 4 student visa to study in the UK, you will need to take an IELTS test, and achieve an overall score of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 for each element (Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing).
