Course summary
Are you fascinated by language and literature but also eager to develop your modern language skills? If so, you'll love the opportunity to immerse yourself in the study of English while also studying a language of your choice. You’ll expand your cultural and intellectual horizons and develop a variety of transferable skills in professional communication, problem solving and critical thinking, opening doors to a wide range of careers. For your English studies, you will tailor your degree to suit your interests through our wide range of optional modules in everything from Vikings to creative writing, Shakespeare to contemporary fiction, and a whole range of approaches to language. Discover new passions as you explore the many disciplines of ‘English’ at Nottingham. You will also sharpen your critical thinking skills as you evaluate evidence, encounter a variety of approaches and methodologies, and undergo independent research. For your language, you can choose to study French, German, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian/Croatian or Spanish at beginner’s level. Or choose to take your current studies further if you already have an A-level or equivalent in French, German, Mandarin Chinese, Russian or Spanish. Spanish A-level students also get to explore beginners’ Portuguese and, if you choose Russian at any level, you can add Serbian/Croatian as a second Slavonic language. Why choose this course
