As this degree is accredited by the British Psychological Society, you’ll be eligible for the Graduate Basis for Chartership once you graduate; the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist. This course provides a suitable basis for entry in to psychology, education, health & well-being as well as human resources. You’ll learn through problem-based learning, practicals, interactive assessments, coursework, placements, research opportunities, mentor-ship from staff as well as plenty of seminars by nationally/internationally renowned researchers and practitioners throughout the year. In the final year of the course, you will have the opportunity to choose form a variety of option units, meaning you can tailor your studies to suit your personal career aspirations and interests. At BU we offer a Research Apprenticeship Scheme to our second-year Psychology undergraduates. The scheme gives students the opportunity to work with members of the faculty on their research projects and could be on one of the many areas of expertise found amongst the staff including autism, prosopagnosia and also how not to get lost! During you degree you’ll explore theory that covers a range of psychological approaches, and participate in practical classes that will equip you with the necessary skills to conduct your own empirical investigations of psychological phenomena, which you’ll get to carry out on regular occasions. Furthermore there is the option of completing a year in industry, plus in your final year you'll get to work closely with a member of the academic team to carry out your own experiment and research. This course provides a suitable basis for entry to, or professional development within, psychology and research and strategic work for campaigning groups. 93% of our final year students say staff are good at explaining things.
For Psychology you will study a range of subject areas including developmental & clinical psychology, biological & cognitive psychology, experimental methods & statistical analysis and get to choose from a number of optional units such as personality, intelligence & social psychology and forensic psychology to tailor your study.
