Course summary
BSc Computer Science and Management is designed to help you gain a strong technical computer science background and understanding of management issues within large organisations. Why study BSc Computer Science and Management
- This joint programme allows you to develop a strong background in both computer science and management science, enabling you to gain an excellent blend of technological knowledge in computer science and business skills.
- You'll be equipped with a deep understanding of the core computer science competencies, programming software engineering, design and systems implementation while also gaining insight into the main challenges, processes and activities faced by management of organisations working in today’s rapidly evolving technology-driven world.
- You'll study across the Department of Computing and Institute of Management Studies, gaining essential skills in both computer science, business and management.
- You'll learn the skill to become leaders of global organisations that have a technology focus.
Modules
Year 1 In your first year, you'll take the following compulsory modules: Identity, Agency & Environment 1 Identity, Agency & Environment 2 Introduction to Programming Dsigning Digital Interactions Strategic Management Computing Project 1 Marketing Management Finance and Accounting Year 2 In your second year, you'll take the following compulsory modules: The Goldsmiths Elective Dynamic Web Applications Fundamentals of Computer Science Organisational Behaviour Developing Business Ideas and Opportunities Computing Project 2 Goldsmiths’ Social Change Module Software Development and Design Optional placement year Our degrees include an optional industrial placement year between the second and final year of study. You will be responsible for securing a placement, but we can support you through this process. Although we encourage you to take the opportunity of a placement year, it isn't compulsory and you can complete your degree in three years. Year 3 (or Year 4 with work placement) You'll complete the following compulsory modules: Final Project in Business Computing Social Responsibilities of Management Optional modules You'll also take: 1 optional module from a list provided annually by the Institute of Management Studies. 1 optional module from a list provided annually by the Department of Computing. 1 or 2 optional modules from a list of third-year optional modules. *Please note that due to staff research commitments not all of these modules may be available every year.
Assessment method
You’ll be assessed by a variety of methods, depending on your module choices. These include coursework, examinations, group work and projects. If you opt for an industrial placement year, your placement tutor will assess your work. If you complete the placement year successfully, you earn the endorsement 'with work experience' on your degree certificate.
