Launch your career as a highly sought-after chemical engineer with our BEng Chemical Engineering programme including an industrial placement year. After all, chemical engineers have a crucial role to play in addressing the world’s challenges – and are integral in key industries such as food and drink, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, and renewable energy. Our course is characterised by its focus on industrial relevance. You'll engage in practical laboratory experiences, design and problem-based learning, independent and peer learning, and research and industrial contextualisation. From the very beginning, you’ll gain a deep understanding of fundamental engineering and design processes, and, in your third year, you’ll spend a year working in industry, giving you first-hand experience of the exciting challenges faced by engineers. Chemical engineers have a crucial role in addressing challenges within our world. As the population grows, we need to create processes that convert raw materials into products in an efficient, safe and sustainable way. You will focus on changing the chemical, biochemical and physical state of raw materials. Chemical engineers are vital to key industries such as food and drink, pharmaceutical, medicinal, polymer, oil and gas, renewable sustainability, and energy. As well as chemical engineering, you will focus on process design. This will include process and plant design, starting from year one of your programme. Throughout the duration of your degree, you will learn the fundamental skills needed to enter the engineering profession. You will also develop transferable skills:
