Course summary

There is a strong applied research focus and particular interests in: enterprise and productivity human resources and leadership, management accounting, financial management, as well as marketing and consumer behaviour. We may also be able to offer you effective supervision for cross-disciplinary projects that link to engineering technology, computing, education and health. As a research degree candidate, you will be supported by a supervisory team with expertise in your subject and/or research approach. A research degree will open the door to work in full-time research or teaching, or provide a greater understanding of professional practice. Our specialisms are the impact of HR on performance, innovation and enterprise, responsible management and leadership. Research Environment The school’s PhD programme is a member of the “European Doctoral Association in Management and Business Administration” (EDAMBA), alongside other internationally recognised doctoral providers. The school’s robust and active PhD programme means that doctoral researchers – whether full-time or part-time – join a group of over 125 candidates involved in driving new knowledge and professional practice forward. All postgraduate researchers are required to initially take and complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Research Methods to support the development of their project and their education as researchers. The university and the school also offer a range of further research training events, postgraduate researcher-led seminars, conferences and summer schools, which will continue your training opportunities throughout your programme. You will also receive updates on opportunities to participate in training offered through other universities and bodies. This diverse range of events helps to ensure that you gain the skills and confidence you need to underpin your research journey. You are also encouraged to attend national and international academic conferences in the latter stages of your research to present your ideas, and receive feedback at such events. The university and school also foster publication opportunities, where, with the help of your supervisors, you may want to submit journal articles as part of your researcher development. There are active research centres and groups researching a range of issues, including services marketing, consumption and retailing, HR, HRD, leadership and enterprise. Based in our new, purpose-built Business School at our Oxstalls Campus, Gloucester, our postgraduate students develop themselves professionally, build their connections and enhance their knowledge and skills on our range of flexible courses, many of which are accredited by industry bodies. Our lecturers are current and active business professionals, experts and researchers who apply real-world industry experience to their teaching. Entry requirements

MSc by Research/MRes: at least a 2.1 honours degree or equivalent - PhD: a master’s degree or equivalent in a subject area relevant to the proposed research topic - We actively encourage applications from students from different backgrounds who demonstrate appropriate research experience and achievement - EU and international students need IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.0 in writing and 5.5 in any other component) or equivalent.
