Course summary

On this course you will develop the skill to critically analyse the use of long term coaching programmes and make judgements about how they impact on an athlete’s development. You will also evaluate the theories of how nutritional aids can enhance performance and demonstrate the development of safe and effective strength and conditioning lifting techniques. You will develop, justify and conduct a research project that will be chosen with the help of a tutor. You will undertake subjects that will further develop your practical skills and theoretical knowledge of running and leading coaching sessions across a variety of sports. You will demonstrate the ability to critically analyse theories relating to the psychological demands on athletes and how to develop coping strategies. This is in the context of the design of coaching programmes. You will be assessed by laboratory reports, essays, oral presentations, time constrained tests and practical assessments and dissertation.

Modules

You will undertake subjects that will further develop your practical skills and theoretical knowledge of running and leading coaching sessions across a wide variety of sports. Critical analysis skills will be developed to facilitate assessment the impact of nutritional, psychological and physiological interventions that may be used to optimise coaching impact.

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

Qualification requirements

Each application is considered on its individual merits and a range of level 5 qualifications will be considered. A typical offer would be a Merit or pass in a Higher National Diploma (HND) or a Foundation Degree ( FdSc ) in a related subject . If we receive an application that identifies you may require additional English and Maths support we may tailor an individual support package to help you with this.

2025/2026 Full-time Fees The College will charge a fee of £9,000 per annum for undergraduate students, £7,200 per annum for HND/HNC students, ( £3600 -part-time) £9,000 for BSc Construction Top- Up students. £9,000 for BSc (Hons) Animal Behavioural Science & Welfare( Top-up) Students, £9,000 for BSc (Hons) Equine performance and Therapies Top-Up Students, £9,000 for BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy Top-Up students and £9,000 for BSc (Hons) Sports Performance and Coaching Top-up students Students who started their courses in previous academic years will continue to pay the same fee as when they started.
