Course summary

Journalism The BA Journalism degree offers students a balance between theory and practice to address the tension between journalism’s public good ideals and news publishers’ commercial imperatives. On a practical level it equips students to work as journalists and editors in a rapidly evolving industry. Theoretically and ethically, it will instil strong professional values by requiring students to critically consider journalism’s role in challenging dominant power structures, social inequalities, and divisions. This will include critical reflection on the commercial and ideological imperatives of the news industry itself. Some important strengths of this course include developing future editors and producers, and emphasising on digital journalism backed up by state-of-the-art digital facilities.
