Course summary

Ancient History at King's covers a remarkable range of topics and themes, from early Greek history to the Roman Republic and Roman imperial history. You will also get the chance to study ancient Near Eastern history, late antiquity, the history and culture of Byzantium. Choose from a wide range of study options on our intercollegiate course that draws on the strengths of King’s, UCL and Royal Holloway and the Institute of Classical Studies. The course leads to careers in education, journalism, finance, politics and cultural sectors amongst others.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree (2.1 or above) in classics, classical studies, ancient history, classical archaeology, history or a closely related subject, or an overseas equivalent; some knowledge of Latin, Greek or another ancient language is a prerequisite; students without formal qualifications in ancient language should take a basic course (e.g. a summer school course) in an ancient language before the start of the course; if students need to improve their knowledge of ancient language they should take 1 language-learning course as part of the MA.
